The Unified Permit system

Serbia combines residence and work authorization into a single biometric card called the Unified Permit (jedinstvena dozvola), valid for up to 3 years and renewable. This replaced the older system of applying for residence and work authorization separately.

The typical process

• Obtain a long-stay Visa D for employment purposes
• Employer completes a labour market test confirming no suitable local candidate is available
• Submit the Unified Permit application electronically through Serbia's Foreigners Portal
• Processing is typically resolved within about 15 days for a complete, correctly documented application
