What is the AIP program?

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a federal, employer-driven pathway to Canadian permanent residence. It became a permanent program in January 2022 after running successfully as a pilot since 2017. Unlike Express Entry, it does not use a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score — your path depends on a genuine job offer, not a points race.

Which provinces does it cover?

AIP is designed for Canada's four Atlantic provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Employers in these provinces use the program to hire skilled workers and international graduates when local hiring isn't possible.

Core requirements

• A genuine job offer from a designated Atlantic employer
• Qualifying work experience (waived for recent graduates of Atlantic institutions)
• Minimum language proficiency (generally CLB 5 for TEER 0–3 roles)
• A settlement plan and enough settlement funds, unless you're already working in Canada on a valid permit
